Three choices make your pair

  1. 1Choose your modelChoose your model below: loafers, lace-ups, monks, boots and a belt.
  2. 2Choose your lastThe last sets the shape of the toe and how the shoe fits through the foot.
  3. 3Choose your materials and finishCalf, suede, patent or cloth for each part of the shoe, then a hand-painted patina and the sole you want.
Step 1

Choose your model

Our models come in four families of shoe, plus a belt to match. Read through them here; you’ll pick yours in the builder.

Renders are placeholders for product photography, shown in Bone.

Step 2

Choose your last

A last is the form a shoe is built around. It decides the shape of the toe, the height of the instep and how the shoe holds your foot, so the same model can look and fit quite differently on two lasts.

Round toe

Zurigo

A rounded toe for a traditional English look.

Slightly square toe

Monti

Classic elegance, with a toe that is just slightly square.

Slight chisel toe

Savile

A sleek look with a slight chisel to the toe.

Chisel toe · Cuban heel

Belgravia

A chisel toe, a narrow waist and a Cuban heel.

If chiseled toes have felt tight on you before, or you like more room in the toe, consider a half size up on the Savile or the Belgravia.

Also available for boots and slip-ons: Drake (a relaxed, roomier dress last), Wellington (boots), Penny Loafer (unlined loafers) and Venetian (slip-ons). [CONFIRM]

[CONFIRM: which models each last is offered on.] Not sure which suits your foot? Your Atelier fitting includes a last recommendation.

Step 3

Choose your materials and finish

Every part of the shoe can be its own material and colour. Then it’s finished to your taste: a hand-painted patina, the depth of the burnish, and the sole underneath.

Calf

  • Luxe calf
  • Box calf

Fine-grained calfskin. Luxe calf is soft and supple; box calf is firmer and polishes to a deep shine.

Painted leathers

  • Painted calf
  • Painted full grain
  • Painted pebble grain
  • Painted croco

Hand-painted colour on smooth calf or on a textured grain, from fine pebble to croco.

Suedes

  • Lux suede
  • Kid suede
  • Waxed suede

Velvety lux suede, finer kid suede, or waxed suede for a firmer, more rugged nap.

Patent and cloth

  • Patent leather
  • Linen
  • Tartan
  • Tweed
  • Flannel
  • Herringbone
  • Houndstooth
  • Leopard
  • Denim

High-gloss patent for evening, or a cloth upper for something unexpected.

Mix your materials. Each part of the shoe can be made in its own leather and colour: the heel cup in a different leather from the toe cap, suede quarters with a calf vamp, or a contrasting cap toe.

Exotic skins

  • Alligator
  • Ostrich
  • Python

Alligator, ostrich or python, for the whole shoe or only the parts you choose.

Hand-painted patina

  • Regular
  • Museum
  • Marble
  • Papiro
  • Camo

Colour built up by hand in layers, for depth a dyed leather can’t match. You also choose how strong the burnish is, from a soft glow to deep, darkened edges.

Soles

  • Full leather
  • Leather and rubber
  • Lug

A full leather sole for dress, leather with rubber for grip, or a lug sole for boots and bad weather.

Sole details

  • Painted sole
  • Sole artwork

Paint the sole in a colour of your choice, and give a leather sole an artistic graphic: a detail only you will know is there.

[CONFIRM: which materials, patinas, soles and splits are offered on each model, and any upcharges.]

The colours

Swatches are photographs of the actual leathers; colour varies a little from screen to screen. [CONFIRM: exotic skins by model, upcharge, and which can ship to each state.]

Sole artwork

Choose a design for the underside of a leather sole: a detail only you will know is there.
